Description
This is the recording of our September 2024 meeting. For our September meeting, we had Craig Timmerman demonstrating how he makes Flat Winged Bowls, such as the one pictured above.
This is one of the many winged bowl styles he makes. While he considers it to be one of the easier styles, it provides a great foundation for turning more complex winged bowls. It also has its own special design features which can provide a challenge for new and veteran turners alike. The demo covers all the steps in the process, including mounting the blank for easier access, turning “air”, negative rake scraping techniques, and general bowl turning.
Craig gave an excellent demo, all the way from his shop in Silverdale, Washington, just west of Seattle. His Flat Winged Bowl demo builds upon a basic bowl project – using many of the same skills and techniques – and adds a visually striking feature. It builds upon our basic Log to Bowl series from January and March, adding a few new skills.
Check out Craig’s website, Armadillo Woodworks for his bio, and more photos of his work.
Members can now purchase access to this recording for just $5. Running time is 1 hour, 53 minutes.
